Assignment

3/25/2020
  1. All grades for Monday, 3/23 assignments have been posted. If you have an "M" for missing in Infinite Campus, it means that you:
-Did not turn in your assignment for Heartbeat
-Did not complete the required 200 Read Theory points using 03/10/2020 to 05/26/2020 and click APPLY to see your points
-Did not complete the 2 NRI assignments or you started them, but did not complete them.
I sent home emails, made calls, and extended the deadline for the Read Theory assignment for week 1; however, I will no longer extend the deadlines, as you all know how to check Infinite Campus, Edlio, and Google Classroom Announcements. These assignment were posted in all 3 of these places. English class is every Monday and Wednesday and your assignments will open at 8 am and close at 8 am two days after they are assigned.

General Comments:
The majority of you turned in all your assignments on time, but those that did not, please check for your assignments every Monday and Wednesday from now on.
Most of your responses to Heartbeat were phenomenal; quite detailed and nice use of textual evidence; however, some of you wrote very simple responses, did not use spell check, did not write your full name, class period and/or title your papers. We have done this all year and the same protocol needs to be followed for distant learning. Remember, English is a 90 minute class two times a week.
Please use:
-12 font
-Times New Roman
-Double -spacing on all typed assignments

Please TURN IN your assignments once they are completed

Today's assignments 3/25 are as follows and will be due 3/27 at 8am:

HOOT: Chapter 13- Figurative Language and Imagery
*Please create a document for the Chapter 13 assignment and answer the following questions. You only have to write the answers, but make sure you spell check and proofread your written work. Make sure your work is 12 font, Times New Roman and Double-spaced.

Imagery is present when a writer uses his/her words to appeal to any of our five senses: sight, hearing, taste, touch or smell. The aromas of apples in the kitchen as the pies were baking. The night sky looked like charcoal briquettes on a barbecue. The fog tiptoed over the hills. The car screeched down the street in a hurry.

Passage from Hoot:
It was a calm cloudless night, and a pale sliver of moon peeked over the rooftops. Insects as thick as confetti swirled around the cowls of the streetlights. Toward the end of the block, two cats could be heard yowling at each other.
This passage above is full of imagery, and it included both figurative language and a sound device. Identify each of the following from this passage by writing each one below: the line provided. (3 pts.)
Simile:
Personification:
Onomatopoeia:

“Honey, sometimes you’re going to be faced with situations where the line isn’t clear between what’s right and what’s wrong. Your heart will tell you one thing, and your brain will tell you to do something different. In the end, all that’s left is to look at both sides and go with your best judgment.”
Write about a time or a situation in your own life that this theme would be applicable. (2 pts.)

It can be a grandparent, someone in a nursing home, or someone that lives alone. They call me everyday, but many people are alone or would love to receive a letter to brighten their day. I don't not need to know who they are, I only need to see that you wrote someone a letter that you TURNED IN to Google Classroom. It is a kind gesture and can be in any language.

Write them a letter letting them know you are thinking about them. The letter should be at least a half a page, 12 font, Times New Roman, and Double spaced. Make sure you use spell-check before you TURN IT IN to me for a grade.

Print out your letter and send it to the person, or if you do not have a printer you can email it to them. I will only be grading the document that you TURN IN.
This letter does not have to have your full name at the top it can be as follows:
