sentences

Edit and revise your essay for errors, and clarity and turn in the essay when you are finished.
Due:
For today, you should be ready to start the revision and editing process of your essay. Create a new document here and paste your essay here for the revisions and editing. I should be able to compare the one uploaded in the last assignment and see that you have revised.
Click on video link below for an explanation of the instructions.
Revision: Revision is when you check your essay for things like word choice, sentence variety, unnecessary content, or adding content.
Editing: Editing is when you look for and repair grammatical errors, spelling errors, punctuation errors, clause errors and citing errors.
To revise: Read your essay.
*Are there places where you could trim your writing to make it more concise with less wording?
*Are you using all simple sentences or do you have a variety of sentences?
*Are there places where you can combine sentences in order to create variety?
*Sentence Variety: Simple, compound, complex and compound/complex
*Are there places in which you need to add more content for a clearer understanding of the topic?
To Edit: Read your essay.
*Does each sentence start with a capital and end with a period?
*Are there any misspelled words?
*Do your complex and compound sentences contain commas?
*Do your sentences make sense and are they complete sentences?
*Have you cited correctly the evidence (research) you used to explain the subtopics?**
**For the Myths, Legends, and Folk Tales explanatory essay you are not making a works cited, but you do need to cite where you got your evidence in the body of your essay. Not citing is plagiarism and will cause a loss of points.
You must cite where the evidence came from in the body of the essay. For example, if I got information on folk tales from the HRW Level-up Tutorial and I use that information in the body of my paper, I have to give credit to the source. So there are two ways to do that.
1. Introduce where the information came from as you write the information. Ex: According to the HRW Level-up Tutorial, "Folk tales are....
2. Cite at the end of the quote or evidence. Ex: "Folk tales are..."(HRW Level-up Tutorial).
Create a new document and paste your essay from the previous assignment. Then begin the revision and editing process. Let someone else read the essay so that they may see errors that you miss and can then help you with the repairs. I should be able to compare the first draft to the edited and revised draft and see the changes you made.

Tablets vs. Textbooks Argumentative Performance Task
Your assignment is to use the research sources to write a multi-paragraph argumentative essay arguing whether or not tablets should replace textbooks at your school. Using more than one source, make sure you establish an argumentative claim, address potential counterarguments, and support your claim from the sources you have read. Develop your ideas clearly and use your own words, except when quoting directly or paraphrasing from the sources. Be sure to reference the sources by title, genre and or author when using details or facts directly from the sources.

On My Honor Book Club Triple Q Chapters 10-12
We are reading the novel On My Honor and are in book clubs in class to discuss the assigned reading. In order to be prepared for group discussion, students will complete an assignment that will give them material to discuss and resources to use for the final project.
All students must complete the reading assignments in order to participate in the the group work and activities.
For the Triple Q assignment, students must read chapters 10-12 and have the following written in their Reader/Writer's and Notes spiral dedicated to English work:
A question the student has about the reading - one question for each chapter
An important quote and explanation why the quote is important - one quote and explanation per chapter.
A quiz item (something that might be on a test) - one quiz item per chapter.
So, for today's assignment, students will need to read chapters 10-12 in On My Honor. We did read two chapters in class.
They will then need 3 questions about the reading, 3 quotes and explanations, and 3 quiz items. one of each per chapter.
See handout and example of the expectation.
All students must complete the reading assignments in order to participate in the the group work and activities.
